Short Stories 1

Memory
It all started when I was six. I was in my backyard, when suddenly a duck
started flapping his wings and chasing me around the yard. I screamed,
so my mom came out and took the duck from the neck, and carried him to a
cage. That night when I was in my room I realized that I could hear a weird
voice going into my mind. First I thought it was a dream, then I thought it
was coming from outside, but I finally realized that it was going directly to
my brain, and not through my ears. The voice was saying, What did I do?. It
was a big mistake. Then I fell asleep, and while I was sleeping, I had a dream
of a man and his wife taking their daughter to school. The next morning I
forgot everything, but I knew that something had happened.

School was pretty easy for me because I would read continuously from dawn
till dusk. Reading was my friend, my mom, my dad, my pet, my brothers,
and everything I ever wanted. First I started with easy books like the
ones from Dr. Seuss, but at the age of ten I was reading crime and
punishment for the fourth time. Every morning I had to go to school, and
it was really boring for me. All the things they told me at school I already
knew, but I had to act as if I didn't. All my life I had to act that I didn't
know because I didn't want to feel a freak. I was in the honor roll every
single year of my school life, and I was always considered the example for
everyone. My teachers told me I had everything a teacher would want, and I
had all the friends one could have. My parents loved me very much and we
got along pretty well, I did everything they wanted me to do.

When I went to college things were the same. I had the best grades anyone
had in years, the research I did was nominee for Nobel prize. I knew TV
was the answer, I would learn everything from TV, I would even learn to
cook and to build houses. I would receive every single channel from
around the world. I learned how to speak every language that could be
written. Offers to work from around the world came to my mail box, so I
had to decide which one to accept.

I decided to accept a job as CEO of a computers company. There was where
I discovered the INTERNET, the best source of information I have ever
dreamed of. I would get all the information I needed for my job . I could
make friends all around the world through chats or e-mails. I could read
books and see movies through it, it was definitely the ultimate source of
information. I even met my wife through Internet, I bought my house, my
car, and everything I needed. At my job I was the best one there could be,
and all my employees loved me. I was PERFECT, and all thanks to my
memory. I could remember everything the entered through any of my five
senses. One day a guy on the street told me I wasn't perfect, because
everything that happened to me was because of my memory. Then I
remembered the dream I had when I was six. The little girl was telling her
parents that she wanted to know everything by memorizing, and her father
answered that if the only thing she had was memory, she wouldn't have the
capability for reasoning and understanding things. Then I thought about
the dream, and I didn't understand it, so I went on with my perfect life.
